Koridua Lodge No 42 GC, was founded in 1964 by forty men of integrity who had a desire to
"spread the sprit of goodwill not only among freemasons in particular but also among humanity
in the geographic area ...» (Bro EK Mensah, Founding Member).
A petition, which sought a charter to form a new Masonic lodge to be called Lodge Koforidua
was signed under the auspices of the Lodge Koforidua Masonic Association by the forty
brethren and was sponsored by Lodge Morality No 1362 SC (now Morality Lodge No 13GC),
and Lodge Akim No 1526 SC (now Akim Lodge No 28GC). In August 1963. a charter was
granted and issued by the Most Worshipful Grand Master Mason of the Grand Lodge of
Scotland. We had been accepted as No 1604 on the roll of Grand Lodge and the 15th lodge
to be formed in the District.
On Saturday April 25th 1964, the lodge was erected, consecrated and inaugurated at the
Freemasons Hall, Adjabeng, Accra, by the District Grand Master Bro Sir Edward Asafu
Adjaye, MBE, who also installed and invested Bro Henry Reginald Annan, Primus of
the'Lodge along with the office bearers of the first administration. The membership of forty
Past Masters and Master Masons were acknowledged. The ceremony was attended by visiting
brethren from a total of twenty-nine lodges.
Our Freemasons' Hall was erected in 1968 on a 1.52 acre piece of land leased from the Government
of Ghana on A. Yirenkyi Avenue, Koforidua. This would serve as the temple for the
Lodge in particular and Freemasonry in general.
Notable brethren in the formation of the Lodge include Bro Henry Reginald Annan, Primus,
who became the District Grand Master (1968-73), Bro. Ofori-Panin Ofori-Atta, Secondus, and
Bro SC Appenteng, Notable brethren instrumental in the sustenance of the Lodge and have
been awarded for such Distinction include Bro Emmanuel Kwasi Mensah, Bro Prof Christian
Charles Adomakoh, Bro Edward Pianim and Bro Benjamin Theophilus Kwasi Adadevoh.
The Lodge, from the onset, set standards that led to a high interest and participation in its
workings.
This led to an increase in its membership. This increase in membership led to the retarded
progression of advancement for many brethren. This led to the necessary formation of other
lodges founded by brethren of Lodge Koforidua; namely
● Lodge-On-The-PlainsNo. 1680 SC, now No. 56GC, consecrated October 2nd 1974 with Bro
KB Ayensu as Primus
● Lodge Olympus No. 1698 SC, now Olympus Lodge No. 62GC, consecrated 30th April 1976
with Bro SC Appenteng as Primus
● Eastern Lodge No. 8930 EC consecrated 21st June 1980 with Bro SC Appenteng as
Secondus
● Lodge Veritas No. 1740 SC, now Veritas Lodge No. 83GC, consecrated 17th October 1981
with Bro BTK Adadevoh as Primus.
In 2008, the Lodge elected to found a Grand Lodge of Ghana thereby forfeiting our Scottish
warrant. In January 2009, upon the erection, constitution and consecration of the Grand
Lodge of Ghana, Lodge Koforidua No.1604SC became Koforidua Lodge No. 42 on the roll of
Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Ghana under the
Provincial Grand Lodge-North. Our first master under the new constitution was Bro Michael
Dugan, RWSGW. Our first Installed Master under that constitution was Bro Nana
Fredua-Agyeman Okotomin.
Our core values are the underlying principles behind who we are, what we stand for, and what we do. They are vital to understanding Freemasonry.
Honesty, trustworthiness, honour, reliability, and conscientiousness form the foundation of a virtuous character. They foster trust, maintain integrity, and demonstrate commitment, ultimately leading to a life of strong principles and dependable actions.
Freemasonry gives members many opportunities to make a wide circle of friends for life who share common interests and values. It provides a bond of friendship and a sense of belonging. This promotes a feeling of enjoyment and fulfilment.
From its earliest days, Freemasonry has respected the beliefs of its members. It promotes an environment where diversity is valued. It is a space where different beliefs and backgrounds converge, fostering an atmosphere of inclusivity, tolerance and harmony.
Whether participating in events, fundraising for a charitable cause or volunteering for public or community organisations, service is at the very heart of Freemasonry. Our members make valuable contributions by donating time, resources and skills.
